So Many Memories…

And none of them are mine.

Via Dinosaur Comics I found a wonderful site named Square America. The author is an avid collector of photographs from the early 1900s onward and Square America is an online museum of just a fraction of his collection.

These aren’t fine art photographs—these are just your everyday snapshots—but they may as well be. Here are some of my favorites:

Squeeze Him and He Screams!

“I was walking along a path with two friends—the sun was setting—suddenly the sky turned blood red—I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence—there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city—my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety—and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.”

Artists of Interest

Bob and Roberta Smith

I don’t remember when or how I found this artist, but it is someone I come back to on occasion. I’ve long had mixed feelings about art and the art world. But Bob and Roberta Smith never fails to rekindle some optimism.

Firstly, before you start thinking I’ve been using bad grammar, Bob and Roberta Smith is the pseudonym used by artist Patrick Brill. That’s right. 2 names, one artist. (There was a woman playing the role of Roberta, but no more.) View full article »
